"As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth. 'Follow me,' he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him." — Matthew 9:9
Good morning. One of the most encouraging truths from Matthew's life is that Jesus calls ordinary people.
Matthew wasn't sitting in a synagogue. He wasn't teaching a Bible study. He was sitting at a tax collector's booth a place that represented his old life, his mistakes, and a reputation most people couldn't look past.
But Jesus did.
When everyone else saw a tax collector, Jesus saw a disciple. When others saw what Matthew had been, Jesus saw what Matthew could become.
And that's still how Jesus works today.
He isn't looking for perfect people. He's looking for willing people. People who will hear His voice and follow Him one step at a time.
Notice Matthew didn't have all the answers. He didn't know what the future held. Jesus simply said, "Follow me," and Matthew got up and followed.
Sometimes that's exactly what faith looks like.
You may not know what tomorrow holds, but you know who is leading you today. So don't let your past talk you out of God's purpose. The Lord is still in the business of taking ordinary people, transforming their lives, and using them for His glory.
Food for Thought
Jesus doesn't call us because of who we are. He calls us because of what He can do through a surrendered life.

Let's Pray Together:
Father, thank You for Your grace that reaches us right where we are. Thank You that You see beyond our failures and call us into Your purpose. Help us to follow You faithfully today, trusting that You are still shaping us into the people You created us to be.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
